Steve, I like where youre going. Id take PGM's all day. If Robert could make a PGM 700 I'd flip.

No worries mate. I have no doubt that it's pretty nice wood regardless. Once you get the guitar maybe you can put some pics up then?

And a PGM would be quite nice, even though I usually don't swoon over shred guitars. Mr. Gilbert is an amazing player, and when he trades solos with Sheehan in this one Mr. Big concert video I saw, this was my reaction. Shocked

That's another great idea, greentinted. Should have thought about that! For those wondering, the PGM 700 is a violin-shaped signature guitar model for Paul Gilbert. Here she is:

Hell, even just an "entry-level" PGM3 would be awesome. And maybe more realistic to imagine Olson selling.

**EDIT** Wow the censor here is quite strict, eh? Can't even say the "h" word?!

I was wondering when someone would wake the watchdog... Laughing
I can change that if you like, I just thought it would be funny to see the reaction when it happened. But the stronger naughty words are gonna stay censored. Usually it seems people keep things pretty respectable on their own, but I like a fairly clean board.

Sounds good to me. Wasn't planning on dropping the f-bomb, but I even use the "h" word in front of my mother, which to me is a gauge of how dirty a word is! Laughing

^^^I was tempted to post the Fireman myself, but I think cloning that axe would really piss some lawyers off if ya know what I mean. That guitar is definitely unique, nothing else remotely like it.
It would be ironic, though, since Ibby themselves got sued by Gibby back in '77... Very Happy

Yeah. it happens. I would like one but at the same time, Id much rather have the Fireman's(firemans? firemen?) that are out there be the only ones. There are some luthiers that make the bodies which is lame. I guess at the same time, thats the same thing with the pgm700 too. Really unique body shape to it.

Right now I want an explorer. If Robert could do that that would be nice. An explorer or a PGM. Then I think once I got those I'd be done gear shopping ... for the rest of the day Wink

Right now Im in a big Gibby Les Paul circa Brent from Mastodon kick.

I like the Fireman. I'd flip too if he could make one!

I think I mentioned 'somewhere else' that I wouldn't mind a more modern les paul...something like the Epiphone Prophecy but with a yellow to green dragon burst.

I wonder what our options are as far as inlay work goes?

I think inlay work for a custom can go pretty far, but I don't know how far. I would love to see a JEM copy, but the inlay would be pretty hard to do. And, Ibby might sue for a JEM copy.

I would like some flame maple, and a lot more color options. Namely the dragonburst, Caribbean burst (I think Carvin), Black Cherry, Transparent black/Charcoal flame, blue flame, basically anything that isn't the regular colors and bursts, but something that is unique and stands out.

Agreed. Though I'd be afraid of the premium we would have to pay for a custom color. Its true that we did request a color that was out of the ordinary for the RR project and the overal price of the guitar is still reasonable in the extreme. But when we get into talking about trans finishes and burst finishes that are really out of the ordinary I'm thinking there might be a dollar amount attached to that option.

Well, one thing to remember is that Robert does already offer a couple burst finishes on the flame veneer LPs at very reasonable prices. I could be wrong, but it seems it would just be a question of a different color paint coming out the nozzle of the spraygun.

foilcurtain, I hear ya on the dragonburst thing. That is one gorgeous finish that I would love to have on a flametop Standard. As far as inlay options, as Phantomotaku brought up, I know of course that Robert can do real MOP or abalone on the fingerboard, in the traditional LP shapes. I would think other shapes would be do-able but that's Robert's call to make. Maybe you guys could post what it is that you're looking for so Robert knows and can answer that for us. One thing I know is that as far as headstock inlays go, he doesn't offer any right now (I asked about it for my custom build) but he is looking into it for upcoming models.

I just thought of this: some of you may already know about it but there is a Web-based program that you can use to design your own guitar. You pick from standard shapes like an LP, Tele, Strat, etc, but you get to choose all the options from woods, inlays, finishes including bursts, everything. There's no way to directly save the image you make but you can just hit the print screen key on your keyboard and paste/crop the picture and save it using Photoshop or even Windows Paint, I think. Very cool tool to use to bring your ideas to life! Then you can post them up here for the world to see... Shocked

Here's the link: http://www.yajimastringworks.com/tct/yswtct-kisekae-e.asp

And here's one of my creations: the Jeff Beck Oxblood LP. The Gibby Custom Shop version has black/black coils but I like zebras better.

^ For more realistic Les Paul designs, I prefer Frank Montag's Custom LP designer. But the problem is, it only has 3 knobs, 1 volume, 2 tone.
