Well, a while back I realized that after owning 9 electrics, it was about time to go on the hunt for a nice acoustic to take the place of my pawn shop beater. I posted a thread asking for suggestions and took all of them into account. I've been playing guitars since, and after about 35 or so different ones, ranging from Epi Masterbilts all the way up to a Martin HD-28, I settled on my new toy.
It is a Larrivée L-03RE. Hand-made in Canada (B.C.), with the following specs:
- All solid wood construction
- Canadian Sitka spruce top
- Rosewood back & sides
- Ebony fretboard
- Ebony bridge & bridge pins
- One piece mahogany neck
- Canadian maple binding
- L.R. Braggs Element Notch pick-up system
Let me start by saying, holy sh*t! This is probably one of THE best acoustics I have ever played. The body is a Larrivée custom size, which is the same size as a dreadnaught on the bottom, but with a slightly smaller top bout and waist. The rosewood gives is a dark, booming tone but with enough brightness to sound perfect to my tastes. The spruce top is highly figured (manager called them "bear claws", to me they look like large flamed spots), which was unusual and what brought the guitar to my attention. I was dead set on a dread when I saw this beauty due to the top. I ended up finding the 1 3/4" neck extremely comfy, which is not something I expected at first, but am really digging right now.
I haven't had much time to play with it yet, but it's going through a set-up, fretboard care (a bit dry) and new strings in a few minutes. I bet it'll sound even better then. Anyway, I know what you're all concerned with, and that is the guitar pr0n. You can find it below. Considering it was -24C (-11.2F) outside today, there won't be any sunny outdoor shots. I did the best I could indoors and with my kaka iPhone camera. I hope to have better ones in the near future. Enjoy!
- Gus

That sir is one good looking acoustic.
Congrats! _________________ When someone asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."~ Jack Burton |

I don't think I've ever seen figure like that in spruce. It's very pretty indeed, and I'll bet the sound is just as sweet! Enjoy, maybe when you have time you could post some sound clips? _________________ ᛊᛈᚨᚱᚨ ᛟᚲᚢᚱ ᚠᚱᚨ ᚦᛖ ᛟᚠᛊᚨᛒᚱᛇᛞᛁ ᚨᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚾᛟᚱᚦᚢᚱ |

It's called bearclaws apparently. It supposedly makes the top sound better with time (according to Mickey at AGF, but he is old enough to know haha).
As for clips, I should have some unplugged ones tonight, and plugged in ones over the weekend. I'll make sure to post them up on here.

Go for it, they are absolutely amazing. You might have to save up though, it's not cheap. _________________ Newest addition: RMO ES-335 Custom Build
