Just wondering what you guys prefer. Acoustic, electric, whatever. Conventional or exotic. Or maybe not even wood?
Me, for a flattop, spruce with mahogany all the way. Rosewood might sound a bit warmer, but picking technique can really negate that difference. And the mahogany just cuts through and lets itself be heard.
Solidbody, the traditional Les Paul combo of mahogany and maple is a winner for me. However, I also fell in love with koa tops on mahogany too. Not as bright as maple and added a bit more color to the tone.
I have yet to play a metal body guitar but those are pretty intriguing, I must say. _________________ ᛊᛈᚨᚱᚨ ᛟᚲᚢᚱ ᚠᚱᚨ ᚦᛖ ᛟᚠᛊᚨᛒᚱᛇᛞᛁ ᚨᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚾᛟᚱᚦᚢᚱ |

I've not had a ton of experience with different guitars, so I can't say. But one thing I can say: NO PLYWOOD! _________________ Gear:

I wouldn't right down dismiss plywood. My 1968 Harmony H801 is made of Plywood, has a short scale (23.5") and looks really weird, but I can get tones out of it that none of my other six guitars can get. So, it really depends on what you are looking for. _________________ Newest addition: RMO ES-335 Custom Build

+1 Both my strats are the same way, alder and rosewood, as for acoustic, I think mine is a spruce top and rosewood back and sides, a maghogany neck, and a rosewood fretboard. _________________ Gear:

That would cost a fortune. I like a deeper sound, so Mahogany body, Rosewood veneers, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. _________________ Guitars- Agile AL3100 CSB, 3100 Root Beer Wide, Schecter PT Fastback 3TS, Schecter C1-XXX

I was about to say...that would be an expensive beast of a guitar. Fender charges 4000 for their 're-issue'...The all rosewood tele that George Harrison used went for some ridiculous price at auction I think I read 300K.
I have to admit when I read that you wanted a rosewood tele I was intrigued and started to source the parts for one. Hard to find parts as far as I know only two companies are even willing to produce all rosewood bodies and necks.
EDIT: Also Jay Turser guitars has a tele with rosewood veneers you might be interested in (you could probably score it for 250 or less) _________________ When someone asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" I've seen the Turser model, not bad. Someone on AGF had a Raven West one as well. There was a Fender Rosewood Tele for sale locally for $3500, won't be going that route. _________________ Guitars- Agile AL3100 CSB, 3100 Root Beer Wide, Schecter PT Fastback 3TS, Schecter C1-XXX

Also there was the MIJ and MIM Fenders with rosewood bodies and maple necks out there. < 1K _________________ When someone asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" Most, if not all, of the traditional tonewoods like rosewood will gradually become unavailable, or pricey as all get out like AA flame maple at the rate they are being harvested, unfortunately. That is, unless more of it becomes farmed wood, which is happening more now. Sadly, though, the old growth forests have pretty much been picked clean and they will likely never return, at least not in our lifetimes.
Hate to be a party pooper, but looking at the price that an all-rosewood guitar commands now makes me go They sure are pretty though! _________________ ᛊᛈᚨᚱᚨ ᛟᚲᚢᚱ ᚠᚱᚨ ᚦᛖ ᛟᚠᛊᚨᛒᚱᛇᛞᛁ ᚨᚠ ᚦᛖ ᚾᛟᚱᚦᚢᚱ |

That is a big fear.
That's why more and more 'budget' guitars are being made out of Paulownia/Phoenix Tree/Princess Tree wood. Which while it does act as a tone wood, it is light, fine-grained, soft. _________________ When someone asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" i think i like walnut as a good tone wood, sounds extremely close to mahogany and it can be had at a cheaper price if you know where to look for it |
