You know when your in a band that doesn't go anywhere and when it breaks up and you don't think about it until you stumble upon your old guitarist bands myspace page and that song you wrote starts playing back at you (horribly)?Shocked

Well, now I do...

Songs that I thought were mediocre in the first place but they were and still are songs that I wrote (music and lyrics) - now I have to waste my resources (time and money) copy-writing them.

Weak...utterly,utterly weak. I'm so freaking furious right now....

One song I wrote as a teenager so late 90's perhaps. the second song was around 2003-2004.

I've started copyright documentation today going to cost 35 a song. Not like I really have 70 laying around but they haven't released the cd yet so I still have time.

yes please do copyright them. i took a music business copyright class this previous semester at schoo. Its is well worth the 35 dollars a song. Unless it is ran through the US copyright and patents office its fair game no matter what. Our professor explained to us that the letter thing is actually non feasible by law, much to the shock of some students who believed they were in teh clear.

\Wow that sucks! At least 35 a song isn't a bank breaking amount (I am in the process of patenting something I developed around 3 years ago and it's $5,000 Shocked )

Hopefully that works out for you and makes the 5k investment worth it.

As for my situation...my frustration and irritation has calmed - but I'm still going to copyright the songs and a few others I've written.

Lesson learned.

Care to elaborate on what you're patenting? Enquiring minds want to know Very Happy You don't need to go into the minute details if you're concerned it might jeopardize security or anything...

A process for production of biogas from anaerobic digestion of sea-lettuce (an invasive plant species here in Atlantic Canada)

Ah thats brilliant gmzanatta! Organics! Non organic oils used for biofuels seem too synthetic, dangerous and unhealthy. Good idea and good luck with it. Hope it takes off for you! 5k is a lot but Im sure youll make it back.

Thanks everyone. I spent a whole summer on an NSERC grant developing it, but could never patent it before due to my professor's involvement. However, they had a recent policy change which makes the work solely my intelectual property, so I'm patenting it now to avoid any future conflicts. The tech still has a long way to go due to issues with pH and salt, but it does show promise.
