I nearly feel like I am committing a sin for saying this, but I think I may be shifting over from the dark side (les paul) to the not so dark side (strat).

After playing my new charvel for a couple of weeks, I just don't even want to play my les pauls much anymore lol. The neck feels great, and the body is just so light weight and easy to work with. I think in a few months (birthday) I may have to pick up one of the new SSS American Special strats. Anyone buy one of these yet?

Who knows though, by that time I may see things from a different angle even more so!

Here's a link for those that may not be aware of this affordable new series of guitars.

Reaper,

I own a LP, Strat, Super-Strat (ibanez), odd body w/ alt material.

Each of them have different tonal characteristics which give me a great range of sounds for jamming live or recording.

I have a good friend (one of the greatest guitar players I've ever known) He hates Les Pauls - Plays mostly Strats, except when he records, he will only records with his friends Les Paul - and not because he can't afford his own ... he just refuses to own one (yeah, he's a little eccentric). He also owns an early 80's BC Rich Warlock custom shop with custom wound pickups (based on his own spec) that he refuses to play any more because its 'too metal'.

Anywho, before I go off on a tangent any more than I've already have... What I'm saying is basically this: Its importaint to have choices when it comes to guitars...why limit your self to just one tone.

I would like to get one of those strats ( I like the finish on the HSS) that way I don't have to fix my current one. I need to do a write up on my current one because its the one guitar I'll never sell.

The first guitar I ever bought, and bought new, is my '93 Mexican Standard Strat. It started off being S/S/S but it is factory routed to accomodate a humbucker in the bridge. I got bored one day and hacked out the bridge pickup hole in the pickguard and dropped in a mongrel 'bucker that I had (might be a Super Distortion, not sure). Now that guitar is sitting, disassembled, under the bed. Trying to decide if I'm gonna revert back to stock with a new pickguard, or buy a new guard with a humbucker hole. Either way it would get completely rewired of course. I'm on the fence for now, but I would never think of selling it. It's another brush to use in painting on the canvas of music, just like my Epi jazzbox and my Olson dreadnought. When my Olson LP comes, the brush selection gets even bigger. Then I'll more or less have all the bases covered in terms of electrics...

Oh no, i'm not getting rid of my les pauls, I still love them, but since I have experienced a bit of the stratocaster world I think it may just have to buy one of the American Special strats later on down the road.

I think its just a natural progression as a guitarist to experiment and try stuff out...

I know this is about the American models, but I think the quality of the mexican made ones speaks for the quality of the company as a whole. I have a MIM HSS stratocaster standard made in 07/08, and I really like the guitar because of how versatile the added humbucker makes it. I play alot of styles of music, but mostly rock and blues and of all the guitars in it's price range (that you could go to any music store and get) it had the best bang for your buck. Now it's not a Les Paul or an SG but I can get it to sound pretty close. My only gripe is around the 16th fret it has a dead spot if you set you're action too low, so it's not a shredder (but nethier am I, so it doesn't affect my playing much). I think that if it was an American model that issue probaly would have been fixed before it left the factory.
