|
|
I have started working on my guitars more recently, and as most of you know I also have a heavily modded squier. Well I also fix my friends guitars (set them up, replace parts, etc.) for extra cash. About a week ago my friend gave me an Ibanez to fix. Well I never have owned an Ibanez, and was reminded why I didn't get one as a starter; while the higher end Ibbys like the RG are built well; their GIO series just sucks. Anyways, I have some fret buzz on the first fret, but only on the 1st an 2nd strings, and I have tried adjusting the truss rod, rasing the saddles, and putting a shim under the nut on the treble side, but there is still buzz. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'll post some pictures when I get home (I'm posting this at school). _________________ Gear:

Neck twist? Uneven fret?
To just get a VERY rough idea of what to do, get a flat (not warped, that would be bad) credit card or a flat straight edge. Rock it across a few frets in the spot you mentioned... If that doesn't show anything bad, then maybe try looking at the neck pocket and how its situated? Or just go to a lighter gauge string.
Good luck! _________________ Gear:

He's only ever used 10s on it, so I don't thing it's the strings. Those where the things I thought of too, but I wasn't sure how to isolate it, thanks
I don't thing the truss rod is double-acting though, so if it turns out to be the neck and not the frets, what should I do then? _________________ Gear:

I would learn up on guitar stuff, look at tutorials, buy books, etc.
Projectguitar.com great site
Dan Erlewine's Guitar Player Repair Guide - right next to my feet as I type this. That'll get you a lot of info about necks and such.
Just try what I've said so far, see if it works. _________________ Gear:

Well I finally fixed it, hope I never have to again. It ended up needing the truss rod tightend. _________________ Gear:
