It appears to my rookie forum admin eyes that the only way to get avatars to work is via remote hosting, i.e. imageshack or other online photo hosts. There does not seem to be a provision for user galleries on the host we are using for this forum, so what you need to do is go into your profile and specify the exact URL for the photo you have uploaded to your chosen host. It has a limit of 150x150 pixels but there obviously is no limit on file size, however.

For posting actual pics you will need to use the same image hosting site (or whatever website has the pic you want to include), but paste the pic's URL into your message and then highlight it and click the "Img" button that appears second from right in the row of buttons above the compose message box. You can of course manually type the commands like this:

Put the letters img inside brackets like this [] before the picture's URL.
Then type /img inside brackets at the end of the URL.

This also applies when you want to link to a webpage, put text in boldface, etc. You can use the buttons or type it in also.
