Well over this weekend I went to my Aunt's house and she was clearing out some of her stuff and she had asked me if I wanted to try out her banjo, and me being a musician, said yes. Well I tryed to play it and couldn't figure it out for a little while, and I'm still trying to, and she said that I could have it because she didn't have the time to play it anymore. I was shocked that she would give up her banjo, she really loved it, anyways I was wondering if anyone plays or has played a banjo and could tell me the tuning for it. I'll post pictures within the next couple of days.

The honest answer is that it depends on the banjo: Here are the common types -

Plectrum Banjo: CGBD,
5-String Banjo: gDGBD,
Tenor Banjo: CGDA
Banjo with Guitar Tuning: DGBE,

A few of my friends that play use the banjo with guitar tuning DGBE

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks, mine is a 5 string. After tuning and messing around with it, I couldn't put it down for an hour. Laughing

Nice score there! I've thought about the banjo from time to time myself. In the hands of a master it is hard to process exactly what they're doing, but it sounds awesome! Do you listen to any bluegrass? That would obviously be a good place to start. Flatt & Scruggs, Bill Monroe's band, etc, to name a couple... When you feel comfortable with it, maybe you can post some clips someplace!

Now you just need to put up some videos of you playing it! Even something very basic would still be cool Very Happy
