Glam pop singer Lady Gaga is on the brink of becoming the first living person to have 10 million fans on a single social networking site, having already overtaken U.S. President Barack Obama on Facebook, a British group that measures online popularity said on Friday.

This is a sad indicator of what the lemmings consider "talent" nowadays. Mad And here we have all these talented musicians laboring in obscurity... all you've gotta do is change your hairstyle and clothes hourly, shamelessly whore... er, promote yourself in any way possible while conveniently skirting the issue of whether you have any actual talent, and voila! instant fame!

That's why I like the new indie scene, there's pretty much any kind of music in that genre, but most of the bands are discovered via YouTube.

Youtube is where I look a lot of the time now for interesting/educational/artistic things, including music. Since I (voluntarily) don't have a TV anymore, it has opened new channels for me in that way. A few years ago, I would have thought I'd miss TV, but I really don't aside from PBS...

Ah PBS - The only channel where I can find "The Red Green Show" - good stuff.

About the lady gaga thing - its no sweat off my back. Its a proven fact that teenage girls will only listen to crappy music (until they get a musician boyfriend) and since they live on facebook and myspace anyway something like this is inevitable.

However, until facebook fans/friends translate into record sales its a completely arbitrary statistic.

After reading about her background its clear that she could have taken a road that was less paved in gold (non-pop music) and put her song writing skills to work - but alas all we are left with is a Ziggy Stardust fashion inspired maddona like creature that creates 3 chord electronica dance music aimed at the MTV demographic (13-24 year old women who suffer from ADD)

Let them have their pop queen - We have Orianthi on our side...Check this out:

Shocked Shocked Shocked

Well, that was completely unexpected. A breath of fresh air. I gotta admit I had a grin on my face the whole time! At first I thought she was sort of a female Vai, but she has her own style, which although influenced by Vai obviously, is very unique. And I admit she can kick my butt up and down the fretboard Laughing

Thanks for sharing that with us, very cool!
