I kinda had the idea of getting a P90-equipped LP from Robert when I have some cash, after one of my friends was talking about it. Anybody here have any thoughts on who makes a good one and what price range? Duncan obviously has great stuff but if there are good, cheaper alternatives it would be nice to know. I've looked at GFS but they have that love/hate thing going on with customers, and Artec/Giovanni seem to have left the US market. Ideas?

You can get the artec pickups from guitar fuel (I think thats the name of it). I also heard somewere that the GFS pickups are from the artec factory.

The ones I had in my Yamaha RGX-A2 were pretty good though I believe they were just available through Yamaha. I did look into p-90 versions of pickups like Dimarzio Super Distortion and the like.

The thing is, Guitarfuel is not going to carry Artec's Giovanni line (which includes the P90) anymore because of the volume orders that Artec is requiring its distributors to buy. (The Entwistle line seems separate from that standpoint and they are still going to offer them.) Artec seem to be moving into bulk sales only, like to guitar manufacturers. As far as the GFS pickups, I think they are possibly made by Artec, because on the Artec site they have a page for factory bulk purchases and there are some GFS looking units pictured there...

A side point: I asked Robert if he'd ever done a P90 equipped LP and he said he has gotten several people asking about that. I suggested to him to check into Giovanni since they are produced by Artec, same as his Entwistles. I have no idea about the factories that build Robert's guitars and if they have access to the Giovannis but it was a cool idea; maybe after he gets back in town we'll see some '54 goldtops available... Cool with a wraparound tail... Cool Cool

Tonerider. EVERY Tonerider pups I have ever played was amazing. Buckers in Alnico IV and II... Bucker sized P90s with Alnico II... and I have heard the P90s (both Hot and Vintage variety) played and all I could say was "wow". I know that if I ever replace the pups in my PS100, it is getting Toneriders. And they are fairly cheap - well under the Duncan/Dimarzio price point.

Toneriders +10000000

If you can't spring for them (not expensive at all mind you) then the P90's Bezdez carries are pretty good. They are Artec and I have one in my Harmony, which is set-up for slide.

If you haven't found you a pair of P90's yet. I grabbed a set of St. Blues P90's w/ black covers for a project I think I am gonna bail on. If you're interested let me know.
On another note, where is the best source for buying Toneriders? I need some Hums.
