Just scored this pickup for my strat for 20 bucks (including shipping)

I'll let you all know how it sounds...maybe even post a sound clip.

I was wondering when one of us would score one of the other Entwistle models. We all know the HV58s rock. Post up a clip on that when you get a chance, maybe a pic or two of the guitar also! Wonder if it's anything like the DiMarzio HS3s I have in my Strat?

I've been looking to try out some neodymium magnet pickups for a while now. For the price I figured 'what the hey'

I've been lucky about finding them on ebay.... but if there is something you can't find you can always go to the source himself:

alan_entwistle@hotmail.com

http://www.entwistlepickups.com/

When I emailed him about jazz master pickups a while back he seemed very friendly - I'm sure if he doesn't sell direct he probably can point you to who does sell them.

The HV58's are pretty good so I'm excited to try this one out.

Its in...it took longer than I expected because the strat copy I had needed a complete rewire.

But its in, with a complete rewire and the other new to me pick ups sent to me.

And it sounds really, really hot (its advertised to be 9.5k) and really really loud compared to the other pick ups installed.

Its definitely a pick up geared towards rock and metal...there is a nice saturation of distortion. but also sounds amazing clean as well.

My only complaint has nothing to do with the pick up its self...after I got it all soldered back together and put back together I found that my 5 way switch was toast.

I had wired it up so that the bridge pu and middle pu would use the tone 1 pot...it only works as I 'jiggle' the selector. I did make sure to check for cold solder joints before I put it back together so it means the selector isn't touching the contact for that tone pot.

Good to hear the pup is good. As for the selector, it could've been too much heat from soldering, and thermal expansion cause the points not to enter contact anymore. Any chance of clips later on?

Its definitely interesting what a difference the pick up magnet makes -
Compared to the stock pickup its louder and brighter (more highs and mid range) this next part is hard to explain... its almost like when playing through a clean channel there is an added 'clarity' to each note. It picks up more of the over-tones and nuances of playing different notes and chords -its like it puts a microscope on your playing - if that makes any sense at all.

I haven't really wanted to record anything because of the problem with the 5 way switch or I would have posted a sound clip or two.

Cool, good to know that it's as good as the other pick-ups. Right now, Toneriders are by far my favorite "budget" brand. I just think that they have incredible pick-ups. Hopefully trying out one of their P90's soon.

Do you buy the Entwhisltes through Robert or direct? What about the Toneriders?

I bought mine through a seller on Ebay.

I was successful at contacting Alan Entwistle about pickups. You may be able to order direct through him using the email I provided above.

I'm considering contacting him about seeing if he could do some of his Humbucker pick ups in a Seymour Duncan JB jr configuration:

Would love to have his HVX or HDN done in that style for a strat I'm starting work on (scratch build)
