Have you looked into a Digitech GSP 1101? I'm gonna look at one after I get another guitar, and they seem to sound pretty good for a SS preamp. But I heard if you hook it up the right way into your effects loop on a good tube amp, it can take over your pre-amp and sound like a tube pre-amp, but if you don't want it to take over your pre-amp, you can hook it up another way as well. Looks, and sounds, pretty promising for the price. It's about $500 brand new.

Once my budget allows, I'm planning to look at a lot of different options. Now the Digitech is another one I can add to my list. Thanks for the tip!

I will probably pick up a Digitech RP1000 and use the power section of my Peavey. It has some flexibility to use your amps sounds and colors, or bypass and run the models on the pedal. It also has a cab bypass, so it will or will not add in the cab flavor to the models as well. The You Tube vids explain it much better than I can.

Another thread back from the dead!

I am considering moving my Blues Junior out to make room for an amp I just came across... a VOX Valvetronix VT40+. I found some Youtube demos and they really impressed me. Apparently the "+" amps are their latest and greatest modeling amps, and they sounded pretty authentic. Any of you guys have experience with VOX modeling amps, any good or bad things of note? I'm gonna look for a place locally that sells them (other than GC) and give them a whirl Very Happy

I only have experience with the few that I've demo'ed.

As far as Vox goes I like their valvetronic modeling amps - especially since you have the option of the valve reactor (tube pre-amp channel). I think the only thing I didn't like was the cheap looking metal grill it had - I think too much opportunity for rattling at moderate to loud volumes it looks like the + series does away with that anyway.

Look at the Fender Mustang as well, I have read nothing but rave reviews on them. So I toolk the plunge and picked up the Mustang I to take to Afghanistan with me. I will give feedback on it when it arrives.

Well, now things have changed in the amp quest. I started hearing about the Epiphone Valve Junior 5 watt head and that it's a giant killer. Over on AGF, TWANG does some amazing mods to them and now I'm really stoked about that little amp. The tone I'm after is a Marshall plexi/JCM800 tone and with the mods, it is doable on the VJ. It would be cheaper than the Vox modeler and since the Marshall tone is really all I'm interested in, if I can get that cranked stack tone from an actual tube at a lower volume, all the better... Very Happy

He did a really good job on my Blackheart 5 watt head. It has more clean head room and the gain is more Marshally than before when it kicks in. I think he has the VJ's down pat.

Craig, have you looked into the Fender Mustangs at all? A LOT of good stuff is being said, and a few folks at AGF have them.
