Ever so subtle hint noted! Razz

Not cheap - $10 for the 750 mL bottle - but I've cut back to only drinking 1 beer a week so I can enjoy one really good beer instead of a 12'er of the cheap stuff. Quality trumps quantity for sure!

Agreed!

I scored a Chimay Première (red label) on the way home from work and now I'm waiting for it to get around the right drinking temperature; another 45 minutes oughta do it. On their website, Chimay recommends "cellar temperature" - 50 to 53.6°F - for the Red and Blue, and 42.8 to 46.4°F for the Tripel. I don't have an official Chimay thermometer so I'm just winging it Laughing

Phanto, let us know how your Chimay session turns out!

I definitly will. I'm going to wait for excitement of the day die down before I do.

I happen to have a single wine bottle cooler/warmer that I picked up at Target or Walmart a few years ago the Chimay bottle will fit perfectly into. Laughing

PostPosted: Wed Apr 07, 2010 11:08 am    Post subject: Beer connoisseurs oppose caffeine ban Reply with quote

Anyone see this story?

Quote:

SAN FRANCISCO, April 6 (UPI) -- California beer connoisseurs are lobbying
against a proposed ban on malt beverages spiked with caffeine, saying the law would hurt artisanal brewers.

David Jensen of San Mateo, who makes beer at home, told the San Francisco Chronicle the bill is too sweeping. Jensen has criticized the plan on his blog, beer47.com.

"This seems like it's an overreaction that could potentially harm consumers interested in legitimate products," he said. "There's something that coffee really adds to beer that you can't reproduce."

Backers of a ban say mixing stimulants with beer keeps young people alert and able to keep drinking longer and consuming more.

"We decided we want to deal with this because a wide-awake drunk is not a good drunk -- they're a bad drunk," said state Rep. Jim Beall, the San Jose Democrat who sponsored the bill. "These are usually targeted toward young, underage drinkers ... and it is a deadly, toxic combination."

Beall said he is trying to refine the legislation to allow artisanal brewers to continue to produce coffee-infused beverages.

As much as I like AZ. I don't want to have to drive there just to enjoy some youngs double chocolate or pretty much any other good stout.

^^^Just read your post. I'd heard of something like this a few months back, only what I think it was, was they wanted to ban things like Sparks - energy drinks with alcohol (like that's gonna make a difference in drunk driving incidents?). To ban beer which has caffeine-containing ingredients...

Just another example of what happens in an election year to try and suck up to specific demographic groups in the search for votes. Rolling Eyes

Well, I broke with my Friday tradition of picking up a bottle of Chimay on the way home from work and finally scored a 4 pack of Young's Double Chocolate Stout instead, after hearing all the guys on the forum here raving about it. I can sum up my experience with it like this: It was almost as good as sex Laughing

It was smooth as silk and the chocolate undertones were just right; not overpowering. Nice creamy head like a Guinness. The alcohol is only around 5.5% (I think), which is perfect for this kind of beer. Too strong an alcohol taste would overwhelm the chocolate, I think.

Gotta give this one two thumbs up, no question. Wifey didn't like it, however, which leaves more for me. Laughing

You mention a 4 pack...were they in cans?

...and would you be disappointed if I told you its actually better in the bottle because you take out the aluminum taste of the mix?

Yeah, the cans with the widget inside. Normally I'm a bottle guy, but I didn't see it in bottles at Trader Joe's. Have to hunt some bottles down somewhere...
